Charleston Water System’s Cross-Connection Control Department is charged with the overall responsibility of protecting water quality by identifying and eliminating all cross-connections that could potentially contaminate the water distribution system.
Charleston Water System requires all water services presenting a potential hazard to install and maintain a backflow prevention assembly that meets our specifications. We have two highly trained Compliance Inspectors and a Cross Connection Manager on staff to assist customers, contractors, developers, and engineers with the installation and maintenance of backflow prevention assemblies.
All assemblies are inspected and digitally photographed upon initial installation by one of our Compliance Inspectors and must be tested by an approved tester once annually.
