Visit is part of Water Missions International’s week-long World Water Day events

(March 22, 2007)—On Thursday, March 22 (World Water Day), officials from Honduras will meet with Charleston Water System staff and tour the Hanahan Water Treatment Plant to gain knowledge about water treatment operations.
The visit was arranged by Water Missions International (WMI) as part of it’s week-long World Water Day activities. The United Nations established World Water Day to promote awareness about the global water crisis and help provide developing nations with clean, safe water.
“The Honduran delegation is in Charleston this week to participate in the unveiling of a major three-year project we are initiating to provide access to safe water and adequate sanitation facilities to the people of Colon, Honduras,” said Danya Jordan, WMI’s VP of Development.
WMI is a Charleston-based Christian non-profit engineering organization whose mission is to provide sustainable access to safe water for people in developing countries and disaster areas. WMI has done extensive work in Honduras, with 75 Living Water TM Treatment Systems (LWTS TM ) installed to date, providing an estimated 150,000 Hondurans with clean, safe drinking water. WMI plans to install 25 more LWTS in 2007.
“We’re honored to have the Honduran delegation in Charleston,” said Andy Fairey, Charleston Water’s Chief Operating Officer. “We hope to share information about our water treatment operations that they can take back to Honduras to improve public health and quality of life.”
The Honduran officials are scheduled to arrive at the Hanahan Water Treatment Plant around 2:00 p.m. Thursday for an hour-and-a-half long tour. The following officials will be participating in the tour: Mr. Cesar Salgado, FHIS Minister (similar to Sec. of State); Ing. Jorge Mendez, SANAA General Manager (Water and Sanitation Minister); Ing. Hector Chacon, Water Missions International Country Director.
